LOCAL GUIDELINES
USTA Jr. Team Tennis brings kids together in teams to play singles and doubles against other teams. It promotes social skills and important values by fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity. It is a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game, win or lose.


Ages and Divisions Offered
(Players age group is determined by their age November 2019)
10 & under Intermediate- Gender Neutral (minimum # of players -4)
12 & under Intermediate – Gender Neutral (minimum # of players - 4)
14 & under Intermediate – (minimum # of players - 2 girls & 2 boys)
18 & under Intermediate – (minimum # of players - 2 girls & 2 boys)
18 & under Advanced – (minimum # of players – 2 girls & 2 boys)

 

Schedule of Play
September 28th Tyler Junior College 9 am- 5 pm
October 5th Longview High School 9 am– 5 pm
October 26th Tyler Junior College 9 am – 5 pm

 

Format of Play
10 and under intermediate-
Each match consists of 4 singles (in order of strength) and 2 doubles (in order of strength).
Players may play a maximum of one singles and one doubles line per dual match. If a team has only 3 players, it must default line 4 singles and line 2 doubles. If a team has only 2 players, it must default line 3 & 4 singles and line 2 doubles. Match play is one set to 6 games (no ad​).
12 & under Intermediate –
Each match consists of 4 singles (in order of strength) and 2 doubles (in order of strength).

14 & under and 18 & under –
Each match consists of 2 boys singles, 2 girls singles, 1 boys doubles and 1 girls doubles. Match play is one set to 6 games (no ad).
Order of Play
Doubles lines should be played first, followed by the singles lines.
Registration
10u and 12u teams must have 4 players registered by September 14th
14u and 18u must have at least 2 boys and 2 girls registered by September 14th. Players must
stay age eligible through November 31st
The winning team in each division will be eligible to represent East Texas in the State
Championships. ​Sectionals for all ages and levels will be played in New Braunfels November
23rd-24th
The local league fee is $20 per player + $3 tennis link registration fee = $23​.
How to be a JTT Captain
1. Becoming a team captain in Tennislink:
A. First, go to ​www.usta.com​ and click on tennislink in the upper right-hand corner.
B.If you do not have a USTA account you’ll need to create one with your USTA
membership number or Team Captain ID. (If you do not have these you will create
an account as you are new to Tennislink).
C.Hover on “junior Team Tennis” with your mouse.
D.Click on “become a Coach/Manager” on the right side
E.Follow the prompts and fill in requested fields and then click “submit”. Next you will
need to complete your background check.
2. USTA Safe Play
A. Visit ​www.usta.com/safeplay
B.Click on Safe Play process for Junior Team Tennis
C.Read through the youth protection policies and procedures for USTA Junior Team
Tennis.
D.Complete the online training module.
E.Complete your background screen application. (this process usually takes about ten
days. When your screen is complete you will receive either a green light or a red
light based on your background results via an email from the USTA.
Each captain must complete the background check. This is free, and it last for two years. The
link is: ​http://www.usta.com/About-USTA/safe_play_background_tearsheet_jtt/​ ​This process
can take 10 days, so please complete as soon as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A JTT PARENT OR CAPTAIN
Recruit the necessary number of players for your team. Have at least one extra to allow for
sickness/injury. You can add players later if needed.
Get a team number from Will Stewart at ​willswbcc@gmail.com​ or 325-575-8351 (you must
have received the clearance email from the background check before you can get a team
number.)
How to Register on Tennis Link
1.Go to tennislink.usta.com
2.Scroll on the Junior Team Tennis
3.Select “have a team ID” and enter the team ID #
4.Enter the player/players (If they are USTA members you use their #. If not, there is a
box above where you enter USTA #’s that says create a player profile. The player fills
this out and gets a player ID#)
5.Go to tennislink.usta.com
6.Scroll on the Junior Team Tennis
7.Enter the team name and select find team – Be sure to select 2019 Fall Season if this
team has played in previous seasons. This is the team homepage, where you can access
the match schedule, team standings and player roster.

 

How to Look up Schedule on Tennis Link
1.Go to tennislink.usta.com
2.Scroll on the Junior Team Tennis
3.Enter the team name and select find team – Be sure to select 2019 Fall Season if this
team has played in previous seasons.
4.This is the team homepage, where you can access the match schedule, team standings
and player roster.
Have your players at the playing site 15-30 minutes before your scheduled match. ​IF you
cannot field an entire team, you can add players in tennis link or call/email the other captain
ASAP. Please understand not showing up or not bringing a full team effects every single
team, so please be courteous to the other juniors and parents that have committed to playing
this Fall league!
